I'm Home

I went on vacation and I'm home now. I went to Arkansas to see our retired pastors from our church. They live on the side of a mountain. The guys went fishing. They didn't have much luck. The went three days and were able to keep three nice trout from one of the days. We had a nice visit.

After that visit, we went to east Texas - Jefferson and Rusk. My half-brother, two half-sisters and my step-mother live in and around Jefferson. I don't know them very well. One of my sisters died last November and it made me think. Nobody lives forever and I wanted to be sure I knew them before anyone else dies. I was afraid they wouldn't welcome me because I hadn't been around but they were absolutely wonderful. They welcomed me with open arms. I have missed so much by not knowing them better. Lex, my brother, got us a room in a bed and breakfast. It was built in 1850's by a captain that put in at Jefferson. It had a canopy bed, the first one I ever slept in. Lady Bird Johnson had stayed there. In fact, there is a Lady Bird bedroom. Breakfast was so 'genteel'. I felt like Scarlett O'Hara. A very soft-voiced young lady seated us. We had ham, scrambled eggs, a fresh fruit bowl (with a sprig on mint in it), banana and a bowl of grits. I love grits but I thought I was probably eating them like the Yankee I am, with sugar and a dab or butter on it. Topped off with fresh orange juice and water. I've had a glass of water but this was different. In fact, everything looked different. It was served on china dishes and crystal glasses. The courtyard was beautiful. (I have a lot of projects for Bob after seeing it)

Then we went to see Kim, my cousin. I had never met her except over the internet. (She's the one I spun the Yorkie dog hair for) She has a great husband. He went out of his way to make Bob feel comfortable and welcome. Kim is VERY talented. She does stained glass. She makes belt buckles, hummingbird feeders, jewelry and lots of other things. She is working on a table now. She is making a stained glass top for it. She made one for her door. It is huge - well, door-size. When she first finished it, it broke and she had to redo part of it. It is very hard to get that large a piece up without putting too much stress on it. If I make it to Ponca City, I think I'll see if I can find some glass and the rest needed to try a small stained glass - maybe for a picture.

We went back to Jefferson. My brother and his sweet wife, Bonnie, took us on a tour of Jefferson, TX (well worth a visit, even if you don't have family there) Then he took us by Caddo Lake. It is a visit to the past. One place, I believe it was at Johnson's Ranch, has a building that was used in one of Walker, Texas Rangers shows. It sells bait, drinks, has a boat ramp and a dock to fish off of. Other movies had been shot there in the past. They told me there was alligators in Caddo but I didn't see any. I'll take their word for it.

Bonnie and a cousin, my Uncle Wiley's great-granddaughter, are planning a Jones family reunion next year. I'm planning on going. I hate to plan on anything definite because I hate to be disappointed.

I need to get back to work and finish some yarn I started before I left.
