Silkworms

I love spinning silk. I started researching how silk was made and decided that I wanted to try it. It is still cool here and I don't have any ready source of mulberry leaves so I bought some silkworm chow to feed them. I don't have the eggs yet but I will get them later this week. Since it is not warm enough for them yet, I'm fixing a box to keep them warm. It is a clear plastic storage box, with a light. The light will warm the air - I hope.

I've been researching the internet to see how it is done. I have notes, sites and belong to the silkworm Yahoo group. Silkworms are used to spin cocoons that are made into yarn and also to feed creepy things - like lizards.

My information says that eggs hatch in about 10 days. The eggs are also supposed to change colors as they are ready to hatch. I'll let you know what happens. Let the fun begin.......
